Programmed Cell Death Pathways in Cholangiocarcinoma: Opportunities for Targeted Therapy

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cholangiocarcinoma is a highly aggressive cancer arising from the bile ducts. The limited effectiveness of conventional therapies has prompted search for new approaches to target this disease. Recent evidence suggests that distinct programmed cell death mechanisms, namely, apoptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis and necroptosis, play critical role in development progression cholangiocarcinoma. This review aims summarize current knowledge on cholangiocarcinoma its potential implications novel therapies. Several studies have shown dysregulation apoptotic signaling pathways contributes tumorigenesis resistance treatment. Similarly, which are pro-inflammatory forms death, been implicated promoting immune recruitment activation, thus enhancing antitumor response. Moreover, recent suggested targeting could sensitize cells chemotherapy immunotherapy. In conclusion, represents relevant molecular mechanism pathogenesis cholangiocarcinoma, further research needed fully elucidate underlying details possibly identify therapeutic strategies.

Programmed cell death in bacteria and implications for antibiotic therapy.

It is now well appreciated that programmed cell death (PCD) plays critical roles in the life cycle of diverse bacterial species. It is an apparently paradoxical behavior as it does not benefit the cells undergoing PCD. However, growing evidence suggests that PCD can be 'altruistic': the dead cells may directly or indirectly benefit survivors through generation of public goods. This property pro...

Intertwined pathways of programmed cell death in immunity.

Programmed cell death (PCD) occurs widely in species from every kingdom of life. It has been shown to be an integral aspect of development in multicellular organisms, and it is an essential component of the immune response to infectious agents. An analysis of the phylogenetic origin of PCD now shows that it evolved independently several times, and it is fundamental to basic cellular physiology....

Cell Therapy for Traumatic Brain Injury: Opportunities and Pitfalls

Today, stem cell transplantation is a hot topic in scientific circles as a novel therapeutic approach to repair the structure and function of central nervous system. The safe and neuroprotective effects of cell therapy in models and traumatic brain injury patients were evaluated in many experimental and clinical studies in recent decade and somewhat promising results were provided to the scient...

Caspase-independent pathways of programmed cell death: the unraveling of new targets of cancer therapy?

In the past few years, accumulating evidence in the literature supports the existence of pathways of caspase-independent programmed cell death (CI-PCD). These pathways are likely to be acting as 'death backup systems' that ensure effective removal of defective cells from the organism. Similar to classical apoptosis i.e. caspase-dependent programmed cell death (CD-PCD), the mitochondrion is the ...

Programmed cell death in Dictyostelium.

Programmed cell death (PCD) of Dictyostelium discoideum cells was triggered precisely and studied quantitatively in an in vitro system involving differentiation without morphogenesis. In temporal succession after the triggering of differentiation, PCD included first an irreversible step leading to the inability to regrow at 8 hours. At 12 hours, massive vacuolisation was best evidenced by confo...
